A junior golf pathway that can grow with them.
Group coaching for younger and older juniors, from first golf skills through to handicap and competitive player development.
The ME Golf Academy junior pathway for developing players.
MEGA Juniors is the main junior coaching pathway within ME Golf Academy. At Sandown Park it covers both younger and older group classes, split into ages 4–11 and 11+. At Hampton Court the MEGA Juniors name is used for the older-junior pathway, while younger children there sit within Fairway Friends.
The aim is to give juniors somewhere to start, but also somewhere to keep progressing. Younger sessions are active and games-based, while older-junior coaching becomes more structured around technique, course skills, scoring, handicap development and competition.
Matt Edgar has coached hundreds of juniors, was named the Golf Foundation Junior Coach of the Year in the UK in 2017 and currently has three players competing in collegiate golf in America. The academy pathway is designed to support both the child who simply enjoys weekly golf and the player who eventually wants to compete at a much higher level.
Different ages need different coaching.

From a first lesson to serious competitive golf.
The academy does not assume every junior wants the same thing. The pathway can stay fun and social, or become more performance-focused as the player's goals change.
Choosing the right group.
Is MEGA Juniors only for experienced junior golfers?
No. Younger MEGA Juniors groups are designed to welcome beginners as well as children with previous golf experience.
Which MEGA Juniors group is at Sandown?
Sandown has MEGA Juniors groups for ages 4–11 and ages 11+. All junior group coaching at Sandown uses the MEGA Juniors name.
What happens at Hampton Court?
Younger children at Hampton Court use Fairway Friends, while MEGA Juniors is the route for older juniors who want more structured development.
Fun first. Then more structure as the player grows.
MEGA Juniors is not meant to turn every child into a tournament golfer. The younger stage is built around enjoyment, movement and learning the core golf skills through challenges. As players get older, the coaching can become more specific around technique, scoring, practice habits and playing the course.
At Sandown, MEGA Juniors covers both ages 4–11 and 11+. That is important: there is no Fairway Friends programme at Sandown. At Hampton Court, Fairway Friends is the younger-junior route and MEGA Juniors is the older-junior pathway.
Juniors can combine weekly group coaching with private lessons when they need more individual technical work. Holiday camps provide longer sessions during school breaks and create more time for games, challenges and course-based learning.
For ambitious players, the pathway can continue into handicap development and competition. Matt has coached five club champions and currently has three players competing in collegiate golf in America, but the same academy also welcomes the child who simply wants to enjoy golf once a week.
